The Factors Affecting Erectile Dysfunction During Fertility Period: Focused on the Cases of Family Therapy

Abstract
|
|
|
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to find out the factors affecting the erectile dysfunction of the husband (client) who did not get erection during fertility period.
Methods: The researchers categorized from verbatim transcripts of the six sessions through continuous comparisons of the concepts and schematized the results through the matrix.
Results: The study found personal factors, family factors, and cultural factors as factors causing the client's erectile dysfunction. The subfactors of each were as follows. First, personal factors included the patterns of maladaptive perfectionism caused by the burden due to others' high standard on the task; in detail, sensitivity to the evaluation and expectation of others, and anxiety of task performance, following delayed behavior. Second, family factors included rivalry and discrimination against siblings, conditional recognition and condemnation, coercion of patriarchal authority, and lack of emotional empathy. Third, cultural factors included the emotion of sorrow resulting from Korean culture of academic cliques and saving face, and getting vicarious satisfaction of rise in social status through their children, and the sorrow of poverty.
Conclusions: In conclusion, therapists need to consider the clients' personal, family, and Korean cultural factors in counseling Korean clients with psychogenic erectile dysfunction.
